Green Roof:
Also called Green Roof or Living Roof. Briefly, it is the establishment of vegetation (which may simply be a lawn, or something more diverse than that) on a cover. This, in turn, may be a slab, a layer of mortar or a structure of wood or bamboo. In any event, should always be properly sized, have a good waterproofing and an effective drainage. The green roof is a simple and effective way to improve the environmental performance of any building, since its advantages are manifold:
- increases the thermal isolation in regards to the sun radiation which reduces the internal temperatura;
- decreases the need for air conditioning (or heating in cold climates) reduces the effect of "”heat island”" of the building, which helps in reducing the temperature of the surroundings;
- retains water at the peak of the rains, helping to reduce the burden on the networks and the bodies of storm receiving water;
- and helps filter particulates and oxygenate the air, keeping their quality;
